چکیده

Weather critically influences fire behaviour. Antecedent conditions control availability and moisture content of the fuels, and thus influence the likelihood of ignition. Once a fire is established, its behaviour is influenced by temperature, humidity and wind. Of these, fire behaviour is perhaps most sensitive to changes in wind speed, as evidenced by the sensitivity of the McArthur Forest Fire Danger Index (FFDI) (Luke and McArthur 1978) to changes in wind speed, particularly at the higher ranges of Aust. Objective identification of wind change timing from single station observations Part 2: towards the concept of a wind change climatology

Wind changes, and particularly wind changes that are associated with dry cold fronts, have profound effects on fire behaviour and fire-fighting operations (e.g. Cheney et al. 2001). Huang and Mills (2006b) (hereafter Part 1) have reported on the first stage of a larger scale project that aims to improve the understanding and prediction of wind changes in Australia. In Part 1 a method of objecti...

Dust Storm Frequency in Connection with Climatic Change in the Arid Region of Iran

Dust storms in arid and semi-arid regions have harmful impacts on the environment, the economy, and the health of local and global communities. In this study, the frequency of annual dust events in twenty-five stations and five climatic variables including rainfall, maximum annual wind speed, average annual wind speed, maximum annual temperature, and average annual temperature in arid regions o...

The Role of Wind Direction and Unidirectional Index in the Time Development and Determining the Sand Dunes Morphology (Case Study: Sadegh Abad Erg-Bafq)

Introduction: At present, about 36% of the land surface is covered by arid and semi-arid areas, with 19% of these levels completely dry and no plant life. In Iran, between one third and one-fourth of Iran's dry surfaces are covered with Sand and Sand Dunes. The arid and semi-arid conditions of Iran have caused about 80 million hectares of Iran to be covered by desert areas, sand dunes and insi...

Evaluation of Time Series Patterns for Wind Speed Volatilities in Anzali Meteorological Station

Abstract. One of the major problems in using wind energy is that wind-generated electricity is more unstable than electricity generated by other sources, and therefore integrating wind energy use with traditional power generation systems can be a challenge. This problem can be effectively reduced by having accurate information about the mean and wind speed volatilities. Therefore, in this paper...

Advanced machine learning methods for wind erosion monitoring in southern Iran

Extended abstract Introduction Wind erosion is one the most important factors of land degradation in the arid and semi-arid areas and it is one the most serious environmental problems in the world. In Fars province, 17 cities are prone to wind erosion and are considered as critical zones of wind erosion. One of the most important factors in soil wind erosion is land use/cover change. T...
